B2B lead data glossary
B
- B2B lead database
- A searchable collection of company and contact records used to find sales prospects, usually filtered by industry, size, location and job title.
- Bounce rate
- The share of sent emails that are rejected by the receiving server. A high bounce rate on a list points to invalid or outdated addresses.
C
- Catch-all domain
- A mail domain that accepts email to any address, so an address on it cannot be confirmed as a real mailbox before sending.
- Contact enrichment
- Adding missing fields, such as work email, phone number or job title, to a person record from another data source.
- Credits
- A metering unit many data vendors use: each reveal, export or enrichment spends credits from a balance included in the plan.
- CSV export
- Downloading search results as a comma-separated file that opens in a spreadsheet or imports into a CRM.
D
- Data decay
- The rate at which contact data goes out of date as people change jobs, companies change domains and numbers are reassigned.
E
- Email finder
- A tool that returns a person's likely work email address from their name and company domain.
- Email verification
- Checking whether an email address exists and accepts mail, without sending a message, to cut bounces before a campaign.
F
- Firmographics
- Company attributes used to segment a market: industry, headcount, revenue, location and founding year.
I
- ICP
- Ideal customer profile: the description of the companies a business sells to best, stated in firmographic and technographic terms.
- Intent data
- Signals that a company is researching a purchase, such as content consumption, hiring or funding, used to time outreach.
L
- Lead enrichment API
- An API that takes a company domain or a person's email and returns additional fields about them.
- Lookalike search
- Finding companies similar to a set of example companies, based on their attributes or on embeddings of their descriptions.
M
- MCP server
- A server implementing the Model Context Protocol, which lets AI assistants such as Claude call external tools and data sources.
- Mobile number
- A person's direct cell phone number, as opposed to a company switchboard number.
P
- Prospect list
- A list of companies or people selected as sales targets, usually exported from a lead database into a CRM or sequencer.
R
- Rate limit
- The maximum number of API requests a client may send in a period, such as 5 requests per second.
- REST API
- A web interface where a program requests data with HTTP calls and receives JSON back, used to pull records into other software.
S
- Seat
- One named user licence on a software plan. Seat-based pricing charges per person who logs in.
T
- TAM
- Total addressable market: every company or person that could buy a product. In lead data it means the full list of accounts matching the ICP.
- Technographics
- Data on which software and technologies a company uses, such as its CRM, e-commerce platform or analytics tools.
W
- Work email
- A person's email address at their employer's domain, as opposed to a personal address.
